Poll: Which Calculus Textbook should I Cover?
Which calculus textbook should I cover? Head over to Patreon to let me know.
I’m leaning towards Woods or Slesnick. Woods gives a very earthy explanation and introduction to calculus, and ties it to the sort of math you do in physics a lot. Slesnick gives a very solid theoretical foundation, preparing you to study more advanced mathematical topics.
There’s also Spivak and Apostol, both highly recommended.
I may want to avoid Stewarts, although it seems to be heavily used in high schools.
Anyway, head over to Patreon and let me know what you think.
1.1 Integers (Basic Mathematics)
This videos covers section 1.1 of Serge Lang’s Basic Mathematics. Integers include the positive and negative integers, including zero. Although we won’t cover much about what to do with integers, we’ll get a good feeling for some of the properties by learning some basic algebraic identities. Read my notes here.

Real Physics Channel Intro
It’s up. I’m experimenting with end cards, and I think I’m figuring it out.
Video Order
Thinking about what order to put the videos in.
Something like this?
- Basic Math (Serge Lang)
- Calculus and Analytic Geometry (Crowell and Slesnick)
- Freshman Physics (Halliday and Resnick)
- Intro to Electrodynamics (Griffiths)
- Classical Mechanics
- QM (mix of Griffiths and Gasiorowicz)
- Jackson’s Electrodynamics
- Something on QFT
- Maybe something on GR.

Why Learn Real Physics?
I’m back making videos. Here’s the first one in a LONG time: Why Learn Real Physics?

Notes on Monetization
I’m trying to organize my thoughts surrounding monetization. I have my rough draft here: http://learn.realphysics.info/wiki/Monetization
Some key concepts:
- I want to build a long-term relationship with you, which means I have to offer something of value that you’re willing to pay for.
- If I can’t hire myself to make videos, then inevitably, I am going to do something else I can make more money at. I need to make this the most profitable thing I can do, which means I can put all my time and energy into it.
- I want to build a sustainable business where I get to focus on the things I love to do (making lecture videos) and other people can do what they want to do (editing, copy writing, managing, etc…)
- If you’re going to give me money, I want you to get something tangible in exchange. I think donations are often too impersonal.
Let me know your thoughts!
